G+ NETWORK - NETWORKING FOR YOU

It is easy for me to forget that growing at a rate of 100 people on average a day, that some of you may not know about the G+ Network.

The following is a link to a list of all the links for the G+ Network
https://docs.google.com/document/d/17FCGYkBOaKylcDPsep9W87NItwDzKkMd11ei8FaZ5u0/edit?usp=sharing

+Scott Bae is a friend I met on G+, and he was looking for a job. I was so disappointed that I didn't know how to help him in his regional area. At the time I had around 8K followers, and though how is this useful if we can't harness and target who we need?

This was the birth of the G+ Network. In almost every city in the United States we have a Chamber of Commerce. Our Chamber of Commerce is different than the ones in Europe. They are not government entities. In fact, some European Countries will not accept certain documents from the US without a Chamber of Commerce seal on it. What they don't realize, is that the Chamber of Commerce here is a volunteered paid membership. They are not government. That little fact always blew my mind (yes I work with imports and exports from time to time).

Chamber of Commerce in the US, and other voluntary memberships have been on a steady decline, with the personal citizen centralization happening to many humans today. I wanted a virtual chamber of commerce, and this is the G+ Network. It is a place for people to meet who live in the same corner of the world, and be social. Get to know each other, develop relationships, and always be prepared for a call to action. Simple.

Each community (60 around the world) has its own moderator(s) who run the community. They have a lot of leverage to customize the community. They also network with the other community moderators, so we can use the buddy system to help each other out.

I know this sounds all well and good, but what does this mean for you, and why should you be involved? Well after you take away to good feelings and personal growth . . . we can focus on money. Yes money! By being an active member in a community designed around old fashioned networking, you are building your team for Google+ and ultimately for your brand.

+Jeffrey Tobian is a perfect example. He owns his own carpet cleaning service, and wants to be a positive force in his community. He has created his own "international trade organization" for fellow carpet cleaning professionals. He encourages them to be members of their local G+ Network. Building relationships with people through these two communities will help his website, blog, and exposure. I know when I need carpet cleaning services I will ask Jeff for his advice. He will refer me to someone in  my area, and everyone wins! When Jeff needs help with computer support, he may call on me, and I can refer him to someone in his area. Everyone wins. We do this all for free. We believe in a team approach to social media, and we have the structure to do it.

The G+ Network would like to partner with your trade organization. Just let us know you would like to partner with us!

I have a website, www.kris10.us
I have this website so that people who follow me can find my home base online. The problem with sharing and establishing yourself on social media, is that you do not own the place you are living. At any moment you can be evicted without warning. When you start to develop your brand you must have a place where people can find you.

I neglect my website, I should be on it everyday, but I only get to it one every few weeks. I want my website to have engaging content. How do I do it if I am not on it everyday? I use my friends. Fellow bloggers are great teammates. Their blogs and rss feeds bring great content to my website without daily maintenance.

This is also why I have several different blogs, trying to focus subjects, so it is easy for my followers to pick out a blog or two that they may want to feature on their websites.

Let's take this a step further. . .
My website is valuable, with over 16,000 followers on Google+ and growing, the traffic to my website will also grow. The person who visits my website, is actually looking to discover more about me. They are know me better than the average follower on G+. There are most likely to return, or recommend my website.

I want my website to reflect my personality and my life. I want people to either see things through my eyes, or have things that illicit an emotional reaction. I use the same thought process when posting to social media too. I am building friendships with people I have never met.

Creating a circle to grow . . .
What is awesome about working with fellow Google Plussers? The fact that we are all people. Once you get past the army of bots and blue heads, and have found your ground, you need to lay down your blanket and claim it. Google Plus is like the first real beach day of the summer. You come packed with all of your gear, and the parking lot is overflowing. You gather all your stuff, and make your way towards the water. It is such a pain to find that spot, but once you do, crack open a cold beverage and enjoy and make friends.

"Hey buddy, I love that song."
"Nice suit!"
"Look at that sun."

Let's play . . .
"You know I saw your blog, and I really enjoyed it. I think the people who follow me would love it too. Can I feature your blog on my website? I will add a feed, and when people click to read the full article they will be sent to your blog to read it."

See link below for my website and notice the three blogs that are from +Jay Flemming +Victoria White +Steve W that I feature. http://www.kris10.us/kristen-s-favorite-blogs.html

Notice I do not credit them on my actual site. I rotate the blogs I feature from time to time. I have many more pages I would like to add to Kris10.us, but it takes time to discover content and feel confident sharing it in this way. There needs to be a certain level of trust. If you have a blog, that is somewhat topic specific, I want to know. Please tag me when you post your articles, or post the link below in the comments.

Random Tips
When considering blogs to feature, I look at how often they post, and how it folds into the overall feel of my website. The feel is completely subjective. It is my website, and my gut tells me how I want it.

I know some people are going to be annoyed that I share these secrets with you, but I believe in abundance. There will never be a shortage of good ideas, or good people to connect with. When you play on my side of the force, you find a centered and stronger you, who isn't afraid of sharing.

BLOGGER Review

I have been using Blogger for about 2 weeks. I really like it and am surprised how easy it is to use. It is a Free Google Application that is easily integrated into your Google+ networking plan. It is a very basic program, but also has advanced features that make your finished blog look professional and polished.

The absolute best part about this program, has to be that you can hire someone to set up the entire blog for you (I would say $200 is reasonable for a basic 1 page set up.) Then anyone who can write an email can blog like a pro.

THE ADVANTAGES
Freshman

In less than 10 clicks can publish their own blog.
Sit down to live blog in under and hour.
Linked to your G+ profile if you choose.
Integrated Google+ comments on your blog.

Mobile app to write your blog from your phone.

Sophomores

Blog and link exchange easily.

Junior
(All the above plus)
Add your own HTML
Labels
Create and Ad Sense Account and Start Making Money
(Adding the actual ads to the site is simple . . . setting up the ad sense account is another story. Think similar to filing a 1040A)

Seniors
(All the above plus)
Create your own gadgets
Create multiple blogs that circle to each other.
Create individual pages on G+ that Blogger can publish your articles to the page of your choice.

To wrap up my overview of Blogger, I have added a variety of the gadgets to the bottom of my blog. For space reasons I have not re-sized them. Take a moment and scroll through. You don't need to be a programmer to add these, or know anything special about webdesign. Gadgets are so simple to add, just click, click, post.

If anyone is using Blogger, please share your experience.

Tech for Small Business - Getting Started

NOTE: This is the first of a series of articles specifically geared towards the new tech user. When you are done with this series, you will learn different ways to integrate technology into your small business. Knowledge is power, and knowledge saves you money.

Sylvester has a small cat grooming business from his home office. It is a small space, but just enough room for what he needs: a phone, an appointment book, a contact book, work order pad, invoice pad and other office goodies. He doesn't see any reason to think about computer infrastructure, because his business is mainly face to face and hands on. He thinks that investing in computers takes time, and money. Why should he learn any of this stuff when he is able to advertise in the local papers, and monthly mailers. Business is steady. Sylvester has no time to learn anything new. He just needs to make sales. Funny thing is that he has all the "computer infrastructure" he needs already. Between his home computer and smartphone, he has enough tech power to run his business to rival the local grooming services from any of the big box stores.

Six months down the road, Sylvester is totally disorganized. Papers flood his once immaculate office. Tax season is around the corner, and he doesn't know where to begin, what to give the accountant, or how to make sense of the papers. Nothing is where it is supposed to be. It is just that he can’t update his books when he is out of the office all day tending to his feline clients. To bad he hasn't figured out how easy it is to integrate his smartphone and home computer into his business. The tools are waiting right there.

Where did Sylvester go wrong?
Before Sylvester started to take on clients, be should have taken 1 week to focus on laying the foundation for his business. One week, may not seem like a lot of time, but it is more than enough to learn a couple of software programs that would set his office up for cruise control.

Where to Start?
1) Come up with three different versions of your website address.
Think about the name of your business, and then sit down in front of the computer on a website like godaddy.com to check domain names. You want to know that your business name is available for your website. A website is NOT OPTIONAL anymore! All new businesses start with a website. This is where you are going to define the aspects of your business and share it with the public. This is the face of your business. Even if you use your website as just a contact card, it shows people that you are alive!

Once you find the available website address – BUY IT. Do not wait. It may not be there when you return in a couple of hours. You are buying the domain name only. You can think about hosting at a later time. The cost of the domain name (like a post office box), is approximately $10 - $20 per year. Discounts are usually available to buy the domain for multiple years.

2) Write out the basic components of your website.
Contact information, hours of operation, service areas, about section and summary of services. These are the main pieces, and from there, the rest of your website can grow. These first set of pages are the core group and you can save yourself a lot of money by having control of the vision of your website.

3) Write out the basic operation flow of your business.
An operations flow chart works for any size business. Small businesses overlook this, because all the procedures are in the owner’s head. However, when it comes time to grow, the owner will either be inundated with people needing direction or have to take a huge step backwards to train the new staff. Starting out with a procedures manual, even if just for your own reference, will save you time and time again.

K10 Networking - NEW BLOG

There are so many thoughts and ideas that run through my head. I am a "do-er" and that means that I would prefer to talk about "solving the worlds problems," rather than narrate the step by step process I go through in building my brand and presence. Many people have been asking me to share more about my tips and tricks for G+.

I have tried to address these requests with two communities . . .
Growing & Organizing Circles w/KrisTen
Google+ Buddy Bank

Unfortunately both are not really meeting the goals I had in mind. Some communities take on a life of their own, these two I think are in an over-saturated subject area and I am not spending enough time in them myself. I am making a commitment to spend more time in both those communities, and starting this blog to share with you my social network experience.

I am going to return to the basics and really focus on targeting the new Google user. I approach Google as a team sport, and want to bring as many people with me, where ever I am going :)

Please subscribe to this blog if you want to learn all my networking secrets. Some of the topics I will discuss are "trade" related, so I will not post those to my G+ Profile.

THE MOST DELICIOUS EXPERIENCE FROM G+ K10Networking Blog

My passion ... meeting interesting people and learning. Yes I have aspirations of world peace ... but I only have what life has in front of me to work with. This is why I do little things that may seem meaningless to some, but seem right to me.

Communities, circles and notifications are the three key elements to enhancing my G+ experience.

Let me start with notifications. Responding to comments that I have been tagged into always take first priority. It is an honor that someone has tagged me, and it is disrespectful to not answer a tag ... even if it takes a day or two. This if often where I meet quality people with no work on my end. It is like being invited into a small dinner party. Some of the people already know each other and they are welcoming you in :-) It is very special when someone tags you in!

Circle Sharing is big. Some people share out random circles, others have them in groups. Heck, I shared out a circle with everyone named "Chris." The issue I have found with circle shares is the quality of the people. Some people unknowingly add in a circle with 100 spammers! If I add in a circle it always gets renamed to something that lets me know who I added it from and the day. Those people are in a holding circle to be added or discarded. We only have 5000 places for people to follow. That is 10 - 500 people circle shares. Easy to find on G+. The work in screening them can be very time consuming. Adding in a circle from someone who is known for screening the circle for you is a huge win. I recommend checking out +Christine DeGraff and the circles she shares. I see many of my inner circle in her circle shares. I also have found some really great women through her circles. Yes I said it ... great women are hard to find in a very male G+!

Finally communities ... they are my love. With last weeks launch of the local G+ Networks I am overseeing around 70 communities. They are off to a great start. I love seeing the local pictures and articles that people are posting. People are even posting their pics from their vacations!

Communities are just that ... communities. Remember it takes time to meet people and get to know them. It also takes time to get the vibe of the community. Right now all the local G+ Networks have my picture on them because I want people to know that they can expect a consistent experience in them all. They also know that they may be the only person in that local community, but the rest of the network is with them. They are not alone. I'm hinting at that "world peace" thing again :-) Local communities have purpose and are needed. Lets give them a tech edge and get them working online. I am sure this is where a huge amount of G+ people will be able to reap benefits from being involved. Oh and by the way, once the communities are fully syndicated we will create a new picture/logo together.

Wow this post was huge! Thank you for making it this far. If you did make it to the end ... please comment "made it" below. Just curious.
